Maurice Jefferson


Maurice Jefferson joined Methfessel & Werbel after managing the staff counsel office for a major commercial insurer, where he litigated coverage and first party claims. Mr. Jefferson began his legal career by serving a judicial clerkship with the Hon. Michael J. O’Neil, J.S.C. of Essex County. He joined the Public Defender’s Office in Essex County before crossing into civil practice, working at several insurance staff counsel offices and a private civil litigation firm. He has handled a wide variety of cases involving premises liability, products liability, construction site accidents, property damage, construction negligence, coverage, SIU/fraud, automobile liability and PIP and subrogation.

Mr. Jefferson has presented seminars to claims personnel and attorneys on a variety of subjects including construction site accident litigation and the New Jersey verbal threshold law. He also produced and presented mock trials to claims personnel and to his two sons’ fifth grade classes.

Mr. Jefferson sat as a Municipal Court Judge in Roselle, New Jersey, and served in his local town of Fanwood as a planning board member.
