Vivian Lekkas joined Methfessel & Werbel in September 2010 following a clerkship with the Honorable Andrea G. Carter of the New Jersey Superior Court in Middlesex County. Ms. Lekkas was responsible for the management of the Judge’s motion calendar, researching various legal topics, and recommending dispositions of pending motions. Additionally, she was certified as a civil mediator and assisted parties in the settlement of landlord/tenant and small claims disputes.
While attending law school, Ms. Lekkas acted as a student attorney for the Civil Litigation Clinic and was actively involved in the litigation process of a putative class action seeking injunctive relief. She participated in Seton Hall’s Center for Social Justice pro bono program devoting numerous hours preparing state and federal tax returns for the public. Ms. Lekkas was recognized in her appellate advocacy course as the only student to receive both honors of Best Brief Author and Best Oral Advocate. She also gained legal experience as a summer law clerk for a prominent plaintiffs’ firm, drafting memoranda of law, legal briefs, jury instructions, and compiling discovery.
Prior to attending law school, Ms. Lekkas utilized her finance degree in achieving success while working in product development for the corporate offices of Federated Merchandising Group and subsequently as a retail planner for Harmon Discount, a subsidiary of Bed, Bath and Beyond.
Ms. Lekkas has co-authored an article discussing individual liability under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination and appeared on the 96th episode of AM Best’s Insurance Law Podcast discussing this important area of law. Ms. Lekkas was also selected to serve on the New Jersey Law Journal’s first Young Lawyer Advisory Board where she contributes to monthly publications. She also assists in compiling and editing Methfessel & Werbel’s Case Update, a newsletter which reports significant legal developments to the insurance industry.
Ms. Lekkas is a member of Methfessel & Werbel’s Civil Rights Defense Group managed by Eric Harrison. Her practice is concentrated in the areas of employment law, education law, public entity law, discrimination law, and civil rights.
